- Maturing a viable IT department your organisation values is tough work!Tougher still when digital transformation is involved...
Common business frustrations & perceptions about IT
- IT seems to over-engineer our solutions; all we need is a quick vanilla installation with a few minor modifications to the software; how hard can that be?
- IT manages our data, however they struggle to deliver new reports we need to make better business decisions
- I feel our tech vendor knows best about the technology we use from them; they also know our business needs better than IT does
- This past year our core business application went down on two different occasions having a significant impact to our business
Trust us when we say, there is a simple approach to solving these and many other IT headaches!
Consider the following scenario:
You are completely renovating your home - a significant investment. You ask two different architects to pitch on the redesign work. You provide some initial guidelines and they each prepare a blueprint design to showcase at your house.
The overall effort, expected cost, building materials proposed and time frame to complete the work is the same from both competing architects. And each comes from highly respectable architect firms. Here is a snapshot of the blueprint(s) they have brought with them:
ARCHITECT A: These set of diagrams are clearly detailed and precise. Not being much of an architect yourself, it takes Architect A a bit of time to interpret these for you but at the end of the session, you come away with confidence in their ability to design the home you want.
ARCHITECT B: This single blueprint is sleek and elegant, and immediately makes sense to you. Not knowing much about the field of architecture, you ask questions having to do with how the home is situated and how big of a shadow it would cast, even how challenging it might be to clean the roof of leaves. At the end of the session, you come away with confidence in their ability to design the home you want and a greater appreciation of other non-structure elements to consider for your dream home.
Who are you most likely to select as the architect for your new home?
The architect who lets the blueprint sell itself or the architect who has to sell their blueprint to you?
Welcome to our 'Fit-For-Purpose Architecture' Service
Designed for business purpose, as opposed to 'design by IT'
"If a picture tells a thousand words, then a diagram or model can communicate ten-thousand words if designed well."
To illustrate an example...
Problem Area: Lack of effective data governance which is preventing the development of analytics reporting.
Problem Description: No one knows who owns which data and arguments are frequent. IT have created data models related to technology systems as opposed to the way in which the business actually works. No one from the business understands these.
Solution: Design a single diagram depicting how data flows across the organisation that every leader can understand. Once accepted by leadership, overlay org chart against diagram to begin assigning data ownership. Where overlaps exist, use this diagram as an anchor point to model at a deeper level. Rinse and repeat with affected management.
- Here's a little secret - not all solutions require a design and not all designs require a solution (to be found)
Often a well-formed design can unite peoples' expectations where perception gaps once existed.
A design's primary purpose is all about building consensus quicker by illustrating high qualitative value.
So, we don't just do designs. We specialise in making sure your needs are met and pain points addressed. To ensure we deliver this promise, we bring a range of differing approaches to find the right fit for your situation.
Whether you represent IT, a business group or perhaps multiple business groups, our job is to find the right approach to design the right outcome(s). This is fit-for-purpose architecture at its best!
